Tooth decay is the most common cause for loss of tooth structure. The decayed tooth structure can be removed and restored with materials such as silver amalgam and tooth coloured materials like composites and glass ionomers. In instances were decay has progressed to involve the pulp tissue (blood and nerve supply to tooth), root canal treatment (RCT) can be performed to salvage such teeth. RCT is a specialized dental procedure which involves removal of infected root canal contents and then replacing it with an inert root filling material. Teeth which have been grossly destructed can also be retained in place after RCT by placing post and core restorations over which a crown can be placed. The department also caters to the needs of smile designing and esthetic enhancements like whitening of teeth and corrections of minor malalignments by placing direct/indirect veneers and other tooth coloured restorations.
